What are the uses of minoxidil?

Minoxidil is what we use to treat baldness, a condition most common among males. When applied, it slows down the whole process, and sometimes helps regrow lost hair. Moreover, men have been using it to grow bushier beards, and it has been doing wonders in terms of results.

When can I stop using minoxidil for my beard?

Anytime you are satisfied with the results. We do, however, recommend waiting until terminal hair stop growing, and new thick ones begin to appear on your skin. You could lose quite some progress since the beard will start growing slower and less evenly. That’s why most recommend using minoxidil for six months.

How to separate terminal hair from vellus hair?

Terminal hair are usually light and long, as well as weak. Vellus hair are darker and rougher, and easier to separate. Once you see that you have vellus hair, you can stop using minoxidil without any worries. If you are not sure about this, we recommend continuing using minoxidil.

How much and how often should I use minoxidil for my beard?

You should apply the medication once in the morning and the evening. 1 milliliter exactly (remember that more minoxidil won’t help you grow a faster beard). Once you put minoxidil on the face, don’t wash it for 4 hours. This way it will be more effective.

After using minoxidil, the skin on my face is dry. What should I do?

Everybody who uses minoxidil has this side effect. Even those who have a perfect skin face the issue. You need to start using skin moisture. Buy a simple cream for your face, and put it on 4 hours after using minoxidil. The situation should improve.

Is higher concentration minoxidil going to make my beard grow faster?

Yes, but you should not put a 15% concentration minoxidil on a face. It will make your skin extremely dry, and that’s the reason why we aren’t providing any information about it. The strongest concentration for beard growth is 5%. The results will not disappoint you, and dry skin will not bother you. However, if you have an extra-sensitive skin, and in no hurry to grow a beard, we recommend going with a 2% concentration.

Is minoxidil a hormone?

No. Minoxidil stimulates blood flow where applied. It is not a hormone; thus it is safe to use.

When will I see the first results?

It’s hard to tell. It varies from person to person. Usually, it takes 1 to 2 months until you start seeing your beard take a new shape. Also, there might be some phases such as shedding, stagnation, and drastic improvement in growth.

How long until my current hair is replaced with new, thick ones?

The timescale is tricky here too. Some get to enjoy a new beard in 6 weeks, for others it might take as much as 6 months.

What if I am underage?

If you haven’t reached adulthood yet, make sure to consult your doctor about using minoxidil. According to data of various researches, DHT of the underage people were not affected after using the medication.

All in all, it’s hard to imagine a situation where a teenager has to use something to prevent hair loss. Sure, you might want to start growing a beard, but at this age, most would recommend you to wait. However, if you still can’t grow one by the time you are about 20, then you should seriously consider trying out minoxidil.

What’s the situation like of buying it?

Minoxidil is available over the counter. Most countries, the United States of America included, do not require a prescription from a doctor in order to purchase the medication.

Do I need to see the doctor before I start using minoxidil?

Ideally, yes. But it still comes down to what you want. From what I have to say, seeing a professional is always a positive thing. After all, minoxidil is a drug, and you need to find out all the details regarding it. Though it is by no means an imperative. You are free to do as you wish.
